The Defense

Defensive Line

Last year, McNeese state featured the No. 1 rushing defense in the FCS. That started with the defensive line.

But the entire starting defensive line from 2017 is gone. The Cowboys use a four-main front, so look for Harris Tafah (Sr.), Christian Robinson (Jr.), Micah Udeh (Sr.), and Cody Roscoe (So.), to earn the starting spots. Behind them, only Marval Bourgeois (Jr.) saw action last season.

Linebacker

The Cowboys run a 4-2-5 defense, and they’ll bring back two starters at linebacker. Tre Porter will return to add some senior leadership, and Christian Jacobs (Sr.) will be back after missing most of 2017 with injury.

Expect to see Marcus Foster (Jr.) and Khoury Kraus (Jr.) see the lion’s share of the time backing up Porter and Jacobs.

Secondary

BJ Blunt is the best returning player on defense. The senior will have to have a huge year at safety if the Cowboys want to maintain a top-tier defense. He’ll likely be joined by Trent Jackson (Jr.)  and Cory McCoy (So.) at the other two safety spots. Calum Foster (Jr.) and Kamon Darby (Sr.) will add depth and experience.

Colby Burton (Jr.) will be back at one of the cornerback slots, and expect a fall camp battle between Kyree McLean (Sr.) and Darion Dunn (So.). The winner will take the other starting spot, while the loser will become the primary backup.
