Two former BYU Basketball standouts are competing in this year’s NBA Summer League. Both saw action this weekend, but neither had a standout performance.

The NBA Summer League is in full swing in Las Vegas, including two former BYU Basketball stars. Elijah Bryant is playing for the Philadelphia 76ers, and Kyle Collinsworth is playing for the Dallas Mavericks.

While both of them saw game action over the weekend, neither made a noticeable splash for their teams.

Fortunately, both players still have at least two more games to make an impression.

Kyle Collinsworth

Collinsworth struggled in his first game on Friday. He played 12 minutes in the Mavericks’ 92-85 loss to the Phoenix Suns.

In those 12 minutes, he scored 1 point on 0-2 shooting from the field and 1-2 shooting from the free throw line. He added 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and a block, but committed 4 fouls.

He looked better in Sunday’s 81-78 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. This time he saw 18 minutes of game action, scoring 4 points on 2-6 shooting from the field. He pulled down 8 rebounds and added both an assist and a steal.

Collinsworth was waived by Dallas on Friday to make salary room for DeAndre Jordan. He’ll look to have a strong enough summer league showing to catch the eye of another team, either with a guaranteed NBA contract or a two-way deal.

The Mavericks will face the Golden State Warriors this evening (5:30pm MT, NBAtv) for their final game before the summer league tournament starts on Wednesday.

Elijah Bryant

Bryant didn’t see any action in the 76ers’ 95-89 loss to the Boston Celtics on Friday, but he saw a little bit of playing time in Saturday’s 96-79 blowout loss against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The former Cougar got in for the last three minutes of the game. He didn’t have any scoring opportunities, but he did pull down 2 rebounds and have a steal.

For Bryant, the summer league is an audition for all 30 teams, with the hope of an NBA contract. Most likely, he’d impress a team enough to sign with their G-League affiliate, where he could continue his attempt to work his way into the NBA.

The 76ers will take on the Washington Wizards today (3:30pm MT, NBAtv), in their third and final game before they enter the tournament phase of summer league.
