Patrick Fishburn earns Top 25 finish in first professional tournament

Former Cougar golfer Patrick Fishburn earned a Top 25 finish in the Utah Championship, his first professional tournament.
Just months after graduating, former BYU golfer Patrick Fishburn has begun his professional career, and he started it off on a good foot.
Over the weekend, Fishburn finished the Utah Championship at 15-under par to finish in a tie for 24th.
In the four-round tournament, Fishburn shot 67, 67, 68, and 67 at the par-71 Oakridge Country Club in Farmington, Utah.
Fishburn led BYU Men’s Golf throughout his four seasons as a Cougar. As a senior, he ranked No. 37 in the nation individually, and helped BYU reach the NCAA Championships. There, he finished 35th in the individual competition.
With his finish at the Utah Championship, Fisburn will take home a little more than $5,000 in prize money.
That’s a key number for the former BYU star, as he attempts to qualify for the PGA Tour.
The Utah Championship is a part of the Web.com Tour. That tour features players who haven’t qualified for the PGA Tour yet, along with those who failed to stay in the PGA Tour based on FedEx Cup points.
The 25 golfers who finish each Web.com Tour season with the most prize money earn their tour membership for the next year.
Fishburn isn’t likely to earn his tour membership for 2019, since there are only nine tournaments left in the 2018 season, and the Top 25 on the money list all have more than $130,000 in winnings.
But for Fishburn, the rest of this season will be a chance to adjust to the professional game. Plus, he can make some money while he’s at it.
And $5,000 isn’t a bad way to start.
