With the first Cougar football game a little more than a month away, there are plenty of events to give BYU sports fans their fix, starting next week.

They don’t call it the dog days of summer for nothing.

Time seems to slow down (unless you’re a kid on summer break), and the sports options are limited to baseball, baseball, and more baseball.

There haven’t been any BYU sporting events in nearly two months. The withdrawals are real for some fans.

The first football game is still more than five weeks away. That may seem like forever, but the first post-summer dose of Cougar sports is just a week away.

That’s right, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, and there are plenty of BYU athletics events and games to tide fans over until that kickoff at Arizona on September 1st.

Let’s look at what’s coming:

August 2nd – Football Fall Camp Begins

Next week BYU Football returns, at least for practice. There will be daily reports and highlights to read and watch, and there are plenty of position battles to follow.

Who will win the starting quarterback spot? How will wideouts Dylan Collie and Gunner Romney impact the passing game? Will Troy Warner be healthy, and how will that affect the secondary positions?

August 4th – Women’s Soccer Blue/White Scrimmage

Football may still be more than five weeks away, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other BYU sports starting before that.

Women’s soccer kicks off their season with a Blue/White scrimmage at South Field at 7pm MT. It’s the first chance in two months for fans to watch a Cougar team play.

August 14th – Cougar Kickoff

The Cougar Kickoff is a tradition that BYU started to allow fans to meet players and coaches of all the fall sports. Fans can get autographs, play games, run drills, and see the human side of the players they normally only get to watch on the field.

The event starts at 6:00pm MT for the general public.

August 14th – Women’s Soccer Alumni Game

BYU fans can walk from the Cougar Kickoff to South Field to watch the Women’s Soccer Alumni game. Both past and current players will play in a fun exhibition starting at 7:00pm MT.

August 17th – Women’s Soccer at Cal State Fullerton

This isn’t a home game, but it’s the first regular-season match for BYU Women’s Soccer. They’ll travel to California to take on Cal State Fullerton, looking to start the season off on the right foot after a disappointing 2017 campaign.

The match is at 8:00pm MT, and can be heard on BYU Radio and ESPN 960 AM.

August 18th – Women’s Volleyball vs. Utah Valley

Women’s soccer isn’t the only sport to start before football does. BYU Women’s Volleyball plays their Crosstown Clash against Utah Valley to start the 2018 season. The match is at 1:00pm MT in the Smith Fieldhouse.

August 25th – Big Blue Bash

The Big Blue Bash is a fundraiser held by the Salt Lake Chapter of the Cougar Club. The event includes games, food trucks, and opportunities to meet Cosmo and BYU cheerleaders. That all leads up to a program featuring Cougar coaches and players as the speakers.

The event is held at Rio Tinto Stadium, and festivities start at 6:00pm MT.

August 30th – Women’s Soccer vs. Stanford

In BYU Women’s Soccer’s first regular-season home game, they’ll host defending national champion Stanford. The Cardinal bring back most of their title-winning team, so this may be the toughest test that the Cougars will face all season.

The match will start at 7:00 MT at South Field.

August 30th – September 1st – BYU Nike Invitational

More from Lawless Republic

BYU Women’s Volleyball hosts three marquee programs in a three-day showcase. The schedule is as follows, with all games at the Smith Fieldhouse:

August 30th

-BYU vs. West Virginia – 7:00pm MT

August 31st

-Wichita State vs. West Virginia – 3:00pm MT

-BYU vs. Stanford – 7:00pm MT

September 1st

-Stanford vs. Wichita State – 10:00am MT

-Stanford vs. West Virginia – 5:00pm MT

-BYU vs. Wichita State – 7:00pm MT

There you have it. There’s enough going on in August to tide BYU fans over until football kicks off. In fact, the BYU Women’s Volleyball game on September 1st should be getting over right as the football game at Arizona starts.

We’ve survived two months, and we only have one more week until the fun begins.
