BYU Football will host North Alabama in 2020. The newly transitioned FCS team is the 12th opponent slated for that season.

BYU Football now knows every opponent for the next three years.

On Wednesday, North Alabama released their football guide, and BYU is on their 2020 schedule. With that game official, the entire 12-team lineup is set for that season.

The one thing that’s not clear yet is what week they’ll play. Assuming the no other game switches dates, BYU will host North Alabama on either October 31st or November 21st.

Right now, the schedule looks like this:

  • Sep. 5 – at Utah
  • Sep. 12 – Michigan State
  • Sep. 19 – at Arizona State
  • Sep. 26 – at Minnesota
  • Oct. 2 – Utah State
  • Oct. 10 – Missouri
  • Oct. 17 – Houston
  • Oct. 25 – at Northern Illinois
  • Oct. 31 – North Alabama or BYE
  • Nov. 7 – at Boise State
  • Nov. 14 – San Diego State
  • Nov. 21 – North Alabama or BYE
  • Nov. 28 – at Stanford

That’s a loaded schedule top-to-bottom, filled with six games against Power 5 opponents, along with Group of 5 powers Boise State, Houston, and San Diego State.

It’ll be a fun home slate, with Michigan State, Missouri, Houston, and San Diego State visiting Provo.

North Alabama is in the process of transitioning from NCAA Division II to Division I. They’ll play at the FCS level, starting as an independent in 2018 before joining the Big South Conference in 2019.

The Lions have been one of the most successful Division II schools for decades. They’ve won 17 conference titles since 1960 and made the playoffs 21 times since 1980.

They won back-to-back-to-back Division II championships from 1993-95, and made the championship game as recently as 2016.

19 Lions have been taken in the NFL Draft. The most recent was Janoris Jenkins, who currently plays for the New York Giants.

North Alabama will face growing pains as they enter Division I football, so it will be interesting to see how much of a challenge they give the Cougars in a couple of years.
