Former BYU Golf star Patrick Fishburn earned a Top 5 finish at the Syncrude Oil Country Championship, an event on the PGA Tour Canada.

Just a few months ago, Patrick Fisburn was wrapping up his college career with BYU Golf. Now he’s earning Top 5 finishes in professional events.

Over the weekend, Fishburn finished in a tie for fifth at the Syncrude Oil Country Championship, shooting 14-under par in the four-round tournament.

Fisburn finished in a tie with Germany’s Yannik Paul, and both golfers finished seven strokes behind winner Tyler McCumber.

The former Cougar was consistently good throughout all four rounds, posting scores of 69, 68, 66, and 67 on the par-71 course.

The Syncrude Oil Country Championship is a part of the PGA Tour Canada, also known as the Mackenzie Tour. It’s a lower-level tour that feeds into the Web.com Tour. This is the fourth Mackenzie Tour event that Fishburn has golfed in over the summer as he tries to finish as one of the five money leaders on the tour. Those Top 5 earn a season-long spot on the Web.com Tour.

The fifth-place finish this weekend moves him into 40th on the money list. However, his $11,210 in winnings is less than one-fifth of what the current Top 5 money leaders have, and there are only five events left in the season.

This summer is likely more about gaining professional experience than finishing at the top of the money list.

While he hasn’t qualified for a full-season exemption on the Web.com Tour, he has played in a few events on the higher tour. That includes a Top 25 finish at the Utah Championship last month.

He currently sits at 183rd on that tour’s money list, with $5,381 in winnings. The Top 5 finishers on the Web.com Tour’s money list earn a year-long spot on the PGA Tour.
