The West Coast Conference released the men’s basketball conference schedule, completing the 2018-19 slate for BYU Basketball.

One day after releasing the conference slate for women’s basketball, the West Coast Conference released the men’s schedule as well.

With the announcement, BYU’s schedule is now complete aside from one exhibition game against an opponent to be named later. The Cougars released their non-conference schedule in late June.

The schedule will look like this:

  • Oct. 24 – Opponent TBA (Exhibition)
  • Nov. 1 – Westminster (Exhibition)
  • Nov. 6 – at Nevada
  • Nov. 9 – Utah Valley
  • Nov. 13 – Northwestern State
  • Nov. 15 – Oral Roberts
  • Nov. 17 – Alabama A&M
  • Nov. 21 – Rice
  • Nov. 24 – Houston
  • Nov. 28 – at Illinois State
  • Dec. 1 – at Weber State
  • Dec. 5 – Utah State
  • Dec. 8 – vs Utah (Beehive Classic at Vivint Smarthome Arena)
  • Dec. 12 – Portland State
  • Dec. 15 – vs UNLV (T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas)
  • Dec. 22 – at San Diego State
  • Dec. 29 – at Mississippi State
  • Jan. 3 – at Pacific
  • Jan. 5 – at St. Mary’s
  • Jan. 10 – Portland
  • Jan. 12 – Santa Clara
  • Jan. 17 – at Pepperdine
  • Jan. 19 – at San Francisco
  • Jan. 24 – St. Mary’s
  • Jan. 31 – Gonzaga
  • Feb. 2 – Loyola Marymount
  • Feb. 7 – at Portland
  • Feb. 9 – Pacific
  • Feb. 14 – at San Diego
  • Feb. 16 – at Loyola Marymount
  • Feb. 21 – San Francisco
  • Feb. 23 – at Gonzaga
  • Mar. 2 – San Diego

The WCC changed the men’s basketball conference schedule to 16 games in an attempt to help top-tier teams bolster their resume. As a result, the Cougars will only play Santa Clara and Pepperdine once during conference play, while they’ll play the other seven teams twice.

This will be the second straight year that the Cougars face St. Mary’s on the opening weekend of conference play. On the other hand, this is the first time in five years that BYU hasn’t played Gonzaga as their last game of the regular season.

BYU’s toughest stretch will come between December 15th and January 5th. They’ll play five straight games away from home, and four of them could be Tier 1 or Tier 2 games.

Fortunately for the Cougars, they’ll never play more than two straight games away from home in WCC play, while they’ll have three straight home games right in the middle of the conference schedule (St. Mary’s, Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount).

Overall, this is a schedule that creates plenty of resume-building opportunities for the Cougars, especially in the non-conference slate.

If they can win a majority of those games and avoid bad losses, they’ll enter Selection Sunday in a good position for an invite to the Big Dance.
