LaVell Edwards Stadium will undergo construction after this season to improve fan access and enhance the gameday experience.

LaVell Edwards Stadium will look different when the 2019 BYU Football season kicks off.

BYU announced that the school will be making structural improvements to the stadium after the 2018 season finishes, and the upgrades are expected to be completed before the following season.

The biggest change will be the addition of new structures in the four corners of the stadium that will connect all four upper concourses. Fans will no longer have to go down to ground level in order to move between the four sections.

It’s not certain yet what those new structures will look like. It’s possible that the new additions will fill in those four corners to create a bowl, but that’s not certain. The school’s release states that renderings of the changes will be released within the next few months.

A few other key changes will be made as well. Restrooms will be added to the upper level on both the north and south sides of the stadium. Currently, fans in the upper level of those two sections have to return to ground level to use the restroom.

The changes won’t be adding any new seats to the stadium. Instead, they’re wholly geared to improve the gameday experience for fans.

The improvements will come just in time for one of the best slate of home games BYU has ever had. In 2019, the Cougars will host Utah, USC, Washington, Boise State, Liberty, and Idaho State.

This announcement came on the same day that the school touted the changes to the gameday experience this season, including:

  • A Wi-Fi and DAS system that will improve internet access throughout the stadium.
  • A new gameday app with stats, replays, the radio broadcast, and more.
  • Mobile ticketing and mobile point-of-sale for venders.
  • A 282 foot by 8 foot social media board above the east stands.
  • A new clear bag policy, similar to the NFL’s.
