BYU Women’s Volleyball has been picked to win the West Coast Conference, and five Cougars are on the preseason All-WCC team.

After winning at least a share of three straight West Cost Conference championships and making six straight trips to the Sweet Sixteen, BYU Women’s Volleyball has the respect of the WCC coaches.

Nine out of the ten coaches in the conference picked BYU to win the WCC in 2018, and the Cougars got 81 total points in the poll.

That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, since BYU brings back most of their key pieces from last year’s dominant team.

In fact, the WCC coaches aren’t the only ones to recognize how strong the BYU program has become. The American Volleyball Coaches Association ranked the Cougars as the No. 8 team in the nation.

Following closely behind BYU is San Diego, who was picked to finish second in the WCC and earned a No. 14 ranking in the AVCA poll.

Along with the conference poll, the coaches also named their 2018 All-WCC Preseason Volleyball Team. Of the ten players on the team, five are Cougars.

Those five are All-American Veronica Jones-Perry, 2017 WCC Defensive Player of the Year Mary Lake, 2017 WCC co-Freshman of the Year Kennedy Eschenberg, Lyndie Haddock-Eppich, and McKenna Miller.

When you have half of the all-conference team, it’s no wonder that you’re picked to win the conference.

The Cougars will play an exhibition game this Saturday at 1:00pm MT against Utah Valley. Fans can catch that game at the Smith Fieldhouse or on byutv.org.

BYU’s first regular season games will come August 24th and 25th at Duke, before they come home to host the BYU Nike Invitational starting on August 30th.
