NFL Preseason Week 2 kicks off on Thursday, and former BYU Football players could see the field in 13 of this week’s 16 games.

Time is slowly running out for former BYU Football standouts to make their mark and earn an NFL roster spot.

While each team has 90 players on their current roster, that number must be cut to 53 on September 1st. That’s just a little more than two weeks (and three games) before a lot of players hit the chopping block.

A number of former Cougars stood out last week in the first full round of preseason games. Players like Taysom Hill, Jamaal Williams, Michael Davis, and Bronson Kaufusi made a big impact in their respective contests, and a handful of other BYU alumni made contributions.

Seven players from BYU didn’t play in week one due either to injury or coach’s decision:

  • Colby Pearson (Atlanta Falcons) – DNP (Coach’s Decision)
  • Jonah Trinnaman (New York Jets) – DNP (Coach’s Decision)
  • Ziggy Ansah (Detroit Lions) – DNP (Injury)
  • Fred Warner (San Francisco 49ers) – DNP (Injury)
  • Harvey Langi (New England Patriots) – DNP (Injury)
  • Daniel Sorensen (Kansas City Chiefs) – DNP (Injury)
  • Tejan Koroma (Kansas City Chiefs) – Injured Reserve

Koroma is out for the season, and Sorensen and Langi are out for at least a few weeks, but the other four could see their first game action this weekend.

Here are the 13 games this weekend that feature at least one former Cougar on one of the teams:

  • Philadelphia Eagles at New England Patriots (Kyle Van Noy) – Thursday at 5:30pm MT
  • Pittsburgh Steelers at Green Bay Packers (Jamaal Williams) – Thursday at 6:00pm MT
