It took a late comeback for BYU Women’s Soccer to earn a 2-2 draw at Nebraska on Monday night.

BYU Women’s Soccer has relied on late-game heroics to earn points in both of their regular-season games so far.

On Monday night at Nebraska, the Cougars scored two goals in the final 14 minutes of regulation to escape with a 2-2 tie. That follows a golden-goal 1-0 win in overtime on Friday at Cal State Fullerton.

Unlike Friday’s game though, BYU wasn’t ball-dominant against the Huskers. Nebraska set the tone early with a goal by Faith Carter less than four minutes into the game. They followed that up with another goal just before the half by Savannah Uveges.

The Huskers didn’t just enter the half with a lead on the scoreboard, they also outshot BYU 9-1 in the first period, with a 4-1 edge in shots on goal.

BYU came out much more aggressive in the second half, and finally put a point on the board with Lizzy Braby’s goal in the 77th minute. Less than five minutes later, Mikayla Colohan tied the game at 2-2.

Neither team could score in either 10-minute overtime period, leaving both teams with a point and the draw.

Even though the Cougars picked up the intensity in the second half, the Huskers still outshot the Cougars 17-10. They led 9-4 in shots on goal, and an impressive 15-0 in corner kicks.

Colohan led all Cougars with four shots, two of them on goal. Maddie Gates was the only other BYU player to take more than one shot.

Just like their first game on Friday, two Cougars split time at goalie. Sabrina Davis played all of regulation, and Cassidy Smith came in and locked the goal down in overtime.

BYU has one more match in their three-match road trip. They’ll travel to No. 11 Texas A&M to take on the Aggies on Friday before coming home to host No. 1 Stanford in the home opener on August 30th.
