After leading BYU Women’s Volleyball to an upset over No. 1 Stanford last Friday, Veronica Jones-Perry has been named AVCA National Player of the Week.

The accolades keep coming in for BYU Women’s Volleyball and individual players after a huge weekend.

After coaches voted the Cougars as the No. 3 team in the nation in the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Monday, they followed it up by naming BYU outside hitter Veronica Jones-Perry as the National Player of the Week.

The awards and jump in the polls come after the Cougars swept the BYU Nike Invitational over the weekend, including a five-set thriller over No. 1 Stanford on Friday night.

Jones-Perry was outstanding in all three of the matches. Against West Virginia on Thursday she totaled 13 kills, six digs, and two service aces, hitting .417.

Her performance against Stanford on Friday was even more impressive, as she tallied 20 kills, 10 digs, and two aces on .341 hitting.

The helped the Cougars complete the weekend sweep against Wichita State on Saturday with 16 kills, eight digs, and an ace on .682 hitting.

Jones-Perry’s performance also earned her West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors, her first of the season.

She’ll need to follow her outstanding weekend up with another one, as the Cougars face three more tough games this weekend. They’ll head to Wisconsin to play in the Marquette Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

They’ll play a double-header on Friday, taking on No. 10 USC and Syracuse, then face off against the host team, No. 25 Marquette, on Saturday.

If the Cougars are able to beat both USC and Marquette, they’ll have three wins against teams currently in the Top 25, with three more to play. The Cougars are set to take on No. 21 Utah next week and No. 19 San Diego twice once WCC play begins.
