BYU Women’s Volleyball has beaten two Top 10 teams in a week after taking down No. 10 USC in Wisconsin on Friday morning.
BYU Women’s Volleyball has beaten a Top 10 team once again.
On Friday the Cougars swept No. 10 USC (30-28, 25-21, 25-14) in their first match of the Marquette Invitational.
The Trojans are the second Top 10 team that No. 3 BYU has knocked off within the last week. Last Friday they took down No. 1 Stanford in a five-set nail-biter as part of the BYU Nike Invitational.
Against USC, the Cougars started off slowly in the first set, trailing the Trojans consistently by two to three points. USC held a 19-15 lead before BYU turned the tables, going on an 8-2 run to take the lead, but both teams battled back and forth until a McKenna Miller kill gave BYU the 30-28 first set win.
The Cougars never trailed again in the match. They got off to a better start in the second set and kept the Trojans at arm’s length, using another 8-2 run to create separation midway through the set on their way to the 25-21 win.
The pattern continued in the third set, as BYU started the set with a third 8-2 run and never looked back. They coasted to a 25-14 third set win to complete the sweep.
Veronica Jones-Perry all players with 26 kills. Heather Gneiting led the Cougars with four blocks, and Mary Lake led BYU with 15 digs.
It’ll be a quick turnaround for the Cougars, as they’ll play a second game later Friday against Syracuse at 4:00pm MT. Fans can watch the feed on Facebook Live.
BYU will play their third game in two days on Saturday when they take on the host, No. 25 Marquette, at 5:00pm MT, also on Facebook Live.
