BYU Women’s Volleyball is now the nation’s No. 1 team in the AVCA Coaches Poll after beating three ranked teams in eight days.

All it took was knocking off three ranked teams in eight days (No. 1 Stanford, No. 10 USC, No. 25 Marquette) and getting a little help from teams above them for BYU Women’s Volleyball to become the No. 1 team in the nation.

In the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll released on Monday, the Cougars jumped two spots to the top. BYU sits at 8-0 on the season, one of only nine undefeated teams left in college volleyball.

The Cougars have won six matches in the last two weeks, sweeping both the BYU Nike Invitational and the Marquette Invitational. Their upset over Stanford was in BYU’s tournament two weekends ago, while the wins over ranked USC and Marquette squads were in Wisconsin this past weekend.

BYU got some help in their jump. Minnesota had the top spot in the poll last week, but lost two matches over the weekend to No. 18 Oregon and Stanford. The losses dropped them to No. 7 this week.

Wisconsin came it at No. 2 in the last poll, but dropped a match to No. 15 Baylor on Friday. They fell to No. 6 this week.

Stanford jumped back to the second spot, followed by Texas and Nebraska.

Fellow West Coast Conference school San Diego dropped seven spots to No. 23 this week. They’re the only ranked team with a losing record (2-4) but they’ve played a brutal schedule.

Both Loyola Marymount and Portland received votes in the poll for the first time this season, with eight and four votes respectively.

The Cougars have two more non-conference games this week before entering WCC play. Both are in-state games, with BYU hosting rival No. 24 Utah on Thursday night, followed by a quick trip to Ogden to take on Weber State on Saturday.
