At least for fall sports, BYU Athletics is enjoying a banner year with three teams ranked in the Top 10 and two more receiving votes.

While the football team’s loss to Washington dropped them out of the Top 25, the rest of BYU Athletics is on the upswing.

Over the past three days, all of the fall sports have seen updates to their various polls. Three Cougar teams are now ranked in the Top 10, and both BYU Football and BYU Women’s Soccer is on the cusp of cracking the Top 25.

On Sunday the AP and Coaches poll was released for football, and the Cougars dropped out of the AP Top 25, but still received votes in both polls.

Monday saw the release of the AVCA Coaches Poll, and BYU Women’s Volleyball still sits at No. 1.

On Tuesday the polls updated for three sports.

The USTFCCCA Poll saw BYU Men’s Cross Country remain at No. 2 in the nation and BYU Women’s Cross Country move up two spots to No. 9.

And for the first time this season, BYU Women’s Soccer received votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. Their five votes put them at No. 37 in the country.

It’s not often that you see an athletic program that has five sports with a presence in the polls at the same time.

Unless you’re Stanford.

At least for the fall sports, BYU Athletics is enjoying one of their best overall seasons ever. If all five programs remain strong throughout the season, the Cougars should put themselves toward the top of the Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings.

The Directors’ Cup measures performance among all sports, compiling a yearly ranking based off of the strength of the entire athletic program.

The Cougars are perennially a Top 50 team, finishing No. 45 in the 2017-18 athletic year.

If all five of the above teams finish in the Top 25, it’s a near guarantee that ranking will improve for 2018-19.
