BYU Cross Country swept the WCC Championships on Saturday. Both the men and women sit in the Top 10 nationally, and they showed why with dominating wins.

Both BYU Men’s and Women’s Cross Country took advantage of a familiar course to secure easy victories at Saturday morning’s West Coast Conference Championships.

The men entered the race, held at Provo’s East Bay Golf Course, as the No. 2 team in the nation, and it showed.

Six Cougar runners finished in the Top 10 individually, with all six earning All-WCC First Team honors as a result.

Connor McMillan paced BYU with a second-place finish, followed by Conner Mantz, Rory Linkletter, and Brayden McLelland to round out the first five finishers. Jacob Heslington and Clayson Shumway finished seventh and eighth overall for the Cougars.

This is BYU’s fourth consecutive conference title, and their sixth in the last seven years. Head Coach Ed Eyestone took home his sixth WCC Coach of the Year honor.

On the women’s side the Cougars, ranked No. 9 in the nation, were just as dominant, placing six runners in the Top 10 as well. They were led by individual winner Erica Birk-Jarvis, and the other Cougars to earn All-WCC First team honors are Courtney Wayment Smith (3rd), Olivia Hoj (6th), Aubrey Frentheway (8th), Sara Musselman (9th), and Anna Camp (10th).

BYU swept the women’s individual awards as well. Birk-Jarvis took home WCC Runner of the Year, while Aubrey Frentheway earned WCC Freshman of the Year and head coach Diljeet Taylor took home WCC Coach of the Year.

Both BYU squads will remain at home and have two weeks to prepare for the NCAA Mountain Region Championships. Those will take place in the exact same location on Friday, November 9th.
