BYU Women’s Volleyball received the No. 4 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, giving them the possibility of four home matches in the tourney.

As long as BYU Women’s Volleyball keeps on winning they’ll keep on playing in the Smith Fieldhouse.

Until the Final Four, that is.

Although the Cougars’ loss in the last game of the regular season cost them the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, they still received the No. 4 overall seed. That means they’ll host the first four rounds of the tournament if they stay alive through the first two.

There’s not a whole lot of difference between being No. 1 and No. 4 overall, so the loss didn’t cause as much damage to BYU’s tournament chances as most expected.

The one disadvantage with dropping to No. 4 would be a potential matchup with No. 1 Stanford in the Final Four rather than the championship game.

If both teams make it that far.

The Cougars automatically host the first two rounds of the tournament, and they’ll take on Stony Brook (21-8, 14-0 CAA) in the first round. If BYU takes down the Seawolves they’ll face the winner of Utah (18-13, 10-10 PAC-12) and Denver (27-2, 15-0 Summit). A potential rematch with the Utes could add some flavor to the first two rounds.

The exact dates and times for the first and second rounds haven’t been set yet.

The biggest potential matchup that BYU could host would take place in the Elite Eight. If both teams survive that far, the Cougars would take on No. 5 Texas (20-4, 15-1 Big 12).

Should BYU win four straight matches at home, they’ll travel to Minneapolis, MN for the Final Four. If all of the top seeds advance that far BYU would face Stanford in the semifinals, while No. 2 Minnesota would take on No. 3 Illinois.

Next. BYU Football will play in one of these nine bowls. dark

Maybe the most surprising note is that the West Coast Conference will have five teams in the tournament: BYU, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, San Diego, and Saint Mary’s.
