BYU Football: Recapping former Cougars in NFL Week 12
By Shaun Gordon
Week 12 is in the books for former BYU Football players in the NFL. The Cougar alumni were headlined by Ziggy Ansah’s record-setting Thanksgiving.
Ezekiel Ansah now finds himself in the record books.
The former BYU Football star set a Thanksgiving Day record with his performance on Thursday, headlining the achievements of former Cougars in the NFL’s Week 12.
Defensive players had the most impact this week among the former BYU players, while the offensive alumni had a relatively quiet weekend statistically.
Here’s a look at how all of the former Cougars fared.
Ezekiel Ansah (Detroit Lions)
Ziggy had his best statistical game of the season on Thursday, finishing with three tackles, two quarterback hits, and a sack in Detroit’s 23-16 loss to Chicago.
More importantly, Ansah set the all-time Thanksgiving Day sack record. His 8.5 career sacks on Turkey Day passed Dallas’ Randy White (8) for the top spot.
Taysom Hill (New Orleans Saints)
While Hill still played a myriad of positions in the Saints’ 31-17 win over Atlanta, he was quiet statistically in most of them.
Taysom did run it twice for 13 yards and had a 32-yard kick return, but didn’t record a pass attempt or a reception target in Week 12.
Fred Warner (San Francisco 49ers)
It’s no surprise that Warner found himself at the top of San Francisco’s stat sheet for tackles once again. He finished with seven total tackles, six of them solo, tying Elijah Lee for the team lead. The former Cougar also deflected a pass in the 49ers’ 27-9 loss at Tampa Bay.
Kyle Van Noy (New England Patriots)
Van Noy was his usual disruptive self as the Patriots held off the Jets 27-13. He had five solo tackles, a tackle for loss, a quarterback hit, and a pass deflection.
Jamaal Williams (Green Bay Packers)
Williams is seeing fewer and fewer carries as Aaron Jones has become the primary rusher for Green Bay. Against Minnesota on Sunday night Williams only had one rushing attempt for five yards.
He’s the type of back who gets better as the game progresses and he gets more touches, but he’s only rushed the ball more than 10 times in three games this season.

Michael Davis (Los Angeles Chargers)
The Chargers blew out the Cardinals 45-10, and Davis saw plenty of time in the Los Angeles secondary. He recorded four tackles, three of them solo, in the win.
John Denney (Miami Dolphins)
Denney continues to handle long-snapping duties for the Dolphins as they fell to Indianapolis 27-24. It’s Miami’s sixth loss in eight games after starting the season 3-0.
Daniel Sorensen (Kansas City Chiefs)
Kansas City sits atop the AFC standings, and they had their bye in Week 12. They’ll return to action next Sunday at Oakland.
