BYU Women’s Volleyball took down Utah in straight sets on Saturday night, advancing to the Sweet Sixteen and a matchup with the Florida Gators.

While BYU Football may not be able to beat Utah, plenty of other sports still can.

On Saturday night No. 4 seed BYU Women’s Volleyball swept Utah (25-16, 25-21, 25-18) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to advance to their eighth straight Sweet Sixteen.

It was nearly a duplicate of September when the two teams met in the regular season. The Cougars dominated the Utes in straight sets then as well.

Utah started out strong in the first set and led by as much as three, but a 7-0 BYU run put the Cougars in control. The Utes also took small leads very early in the second and third sets, but played from behind nearly the whole night.

While BYU never hit better than .300 in any set on Friday night, they turned it around and never hit below .306 on Saturday night. Veronica Jones-Perry led the Cougars with 20 kills, and four BYU players hit .471 or better.

With the win, the Cougars advance to their eighth straight Sweet Sixteen, and this time they’ll host the next two rounds as well.

BYU will face Florida next Friday, and the winner will take on the winner of No. 5 seed Texas and Michigan.

And while a matchup with Texas in the Elite Eight would be one of the premier matchups of the tournament, the Cougars can’t look past the Gators. While Florida isn’t seeded in this year’s tournament, they played in last year’s national championship game and they’ve swept both Florida State and Florida Gulf Coast so far in the tournament.

Florida sits at 26-6 and finished the season ranked No. 16 in the AVCA Coaches Poll.

If the Cougars get past the Gators and can beat Texas as well, they’ll certainly have earned their spot in the Final Four.
