BYU Football: Recapping former Cougars in NFL Week 13
By Shaun Gordon
All eight former BYU Football stars in the NFL saw action in Week 13. All of them contributed, although none stood out on the stat sheets.
Bye weeks are over and all of the former BYU Football players in the NFL are healthy, so we saw all eight of them take the field in Week 13.
While none of the former Cougars really stood out statistically over the weekend, all of them contributed and found themselves on the stat sheet.
Here’s a look at how all eight former Cougars performed:
Taysom Hill (New Orleans Saints)
Although Hill lined up as both a quarterback and a receiver in New Orleans’ 13-10 loss to Dallas, his only statistical output came on kick returns.
He ran back two kicks for a total of 47 yards. He’s one return short of qualifying for the leaderboards, but if he did he’d sit at No. 8 in the NFL in yards per return.
Jamaal Williams (Green Bay Packers)
Williams struggled to run the ball in Green Bay’s 20-17 loss to Atlanta, gaining just 13 yards on seven carries. However, he also caught 4 passes for 14 yards and returned three kickoffs for 72 yards.
It will be interesting to see if and how his role changes after head coach Mike McCarthy’s firing after Sunday’s loss.
Kyle Van Noy (New England Patriots)
Van Noy has been on a tear recently, and that continued in New England’s 24-10 win over Minnesota. He finished with five tackles, four of them solo, and added a quarterback hit.
Fred Warner (San Francisco 49ers)
San Francisco got blown out by Seattle 43-16, but Warner wasn’t to blame. He led the 49ers in tackling once again with eight, adding a quarterback hit as well.
Ezekiel Ansah (Detroit Lions)
The Lions managed to play even with the Los Angeles Rams for three quarters, but two fourth quarter Ram touchdowns doomed the Lions.
Ansah had a quiet game statistically, finishing with only one quarterback hit.
Michael Davis (Los Angeles Chargers)
Los Angeles held off Pittsburgh 33-30 on Sunday night, and Davis played nearly every defensive snap at cornerback. He finished with one solo tackle and a pass deflection.
Daniel Sorensen (Kansas City Chiefs)
Sorensen continues to work his way back into the lineup and played nearly half of Kansas City’s defensive snaps in their 40-33 win at Oakland.
He finished the game with two tackles and a pass deflection.
John Denney (Miami Dolphins)
Denney keeps plugging along as the long-snapper for the Dolphins. He snapped it 10 times in their 21-17 win over Buffalo, seven times on punts and three times on extra point conversions.
