BYU Athletics: Here’s our Cougar Christmas wish list

BYU Football: Beat Utah
This one is a no-brainer, but maybe it’s time to ask Santa to help tip the scales in BYU’s favor for the 2019 Holy War.
The Cougars have had opportunity after opportunity to break the Utes’ streak recently, and every time they end up snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Just look at the current Utah winning streak:
- 2018 – Losing a 20-point lead midway through the third quarter.
- 2017 – Two dropped passes doom a late game-winning drive.
- 2016 – A missed game-winning two-point conversion with 18 seconds left.
- 2015 – A 35-point comeback falls just short in the Las Vegas Bowl
- 2014 – Safety first. Oh wait, that’s basketball.
- 2013 – A potential game-winning drive fails with the Cougars down seven points.
- 2012 – Utah fans don’t know the difference between the stands and the field, but BYU still missed the game-tying field goal.
- 2011 – Let’s pretend this one didn’t happen.
- 2010 – BYU misseed a game-winning field goal after a horrible officiating call allowed the Utes to take the lead late.
Aside from 2011 every game has finished within a touchdown during Utah’s current win streak. And the Cougars had a good chance to either tie or take the lead in every one of those one-score games.
BYU can beat Utah, but they haven’t. The “Max Hall Curse” is making the “Curse of the Billy Goat” and the “Curse of the Bambino” look like child’s play right now.
Maybe it will take some intervention from Santa and his elves to break whatever magic has helped Utah barely escape with wins each year.
