WCC Players to Watch

Gabby Green (Loyola Marymount)

Green has only played in six games, and scored at least 19 points in four of them. The Lions rely on her scoring, and she’s one of the best in the conference.

The senior does more than score though. She’s a solid-rebounding guard (6.5 rpg) and adds three assists and two steals per game.

Julie Spencer (Portland)

The Pilots have the No. 5 and No. 6 scorers in the conference, Spencer and Darian Slaga, but Spencer is the better all-around player.

As a senior forward, she’s also No. 4 in the WCC with 7.8 rebounds and also adds a steal per game. Plus, she’s an excellent three-point shooter (42.9%)

More from Lawless Republic

Shannon Powell (San Francisco)

Powell sits in the conference’s Top 15 in four major categories. She’s No. 4 in scoring (16.8), No. 13 in rebounds (5.9), No. 9 in assists (3.9) and No. 5 in steals (2.1).

The Dons will knock off some of the better teams in the WCC this year, and the senior guard will be the catalyst for those upsets.

Sydney Raggio (St. Mary’s)

Raggio is No. 10 in the conference in scoring, with 13.2 points per game. She leads a balanced Gaels attack, so she doesn’t get the shot volume that other leading scorers do.

But the senior will do plenty of damage down low, adding a conference-high 8.5 rebounds and nearly three assists per game.

Valerie Higgins (Pacific)

Higgins is a prototypical big who will kill you down low but struggles from distance. She’s No. 3 in the conference in both scoring (17.1) and rebounding (7.9).

The sophomore had a giant game against Wyoming, pouring in 28 points and grabbing eight rebounds in the win.

Yasmine Robinson-Bacote (Pepperdine)

And then there’s the WCC’s best scorer. She leads the conference in scoring (18.7 ppg), and does it while shooting 46.1% from the field and 40.7% from distance.

The senior forward is also No. 9 in rebounding (7.0), and her 47-point performance against Sacramento State is by far the conference’s best single-game scoring effort.
