2018 is in the books for BYU Athletics. Let’s take a look back the Top 10 moments of the year in Cougar sports.

It’s time to bid adieu to 2018. Everyone has had good moments and bad ones this year, and it was no different for BYU Athletics.

Football rebounded with a winning season (barely). The 2018 fall sports were pretty spectacular. The Cougars won more than their fair share of conference titles.

Without further ado, let’s look back on the Top 10 moments for BYU sports in 2018:

No. 10 – Men’s Golf Earns Top 25 Finish at NCAA Championships

May 25-30, 2018

After a third place finish at the West Coast Conference Championships, Men’s Golf placed second at the NCAA Regionals, qualifying them for the NCAA Championships from May 25-30.

Led by senior Patrick Fishburn, who took 35th individually at five-over par, the Cougars finished 33-over, good for a No. 24 finish. It’s BYU’s highest finish as a team since 2006.

Most of the team returns in 2019, led by juniors Peter Kuest and Rhett Rasmussen.

No. 9 – Softball wins 10th Consecutive Conference Title

May 12, 2018

BYU Softball started slowly in 2018, losing nine of their first thirteen games, but by the time WCC play rolled around they’d hit their stride.

The Cougars won 20 of their last 22 games, including a 13-1 conference mark. It came down to a final-day doubleheader with Loyola Marymount to clinch the conference, and BYU swept the Lions 3-2 and 8-0 to secure the title.

The wins extended BYU’s conference title streak to 10, including five straight WCC championships. Just as impressively, the Cougars advanced to their 14th straight NCAA Tournament.
