BYU Football: How the Running Back position stacks up with Riley Burt’s transfer
By Shaun Gordon
Wild Cards
Ula Tolutau
Tolutau isn’t on BYU’s roster and wasn’t there throughout the 2018 season after off-the-field issues in 2017. His return is far from guaranteed, but still a possibility.
If so, he’d create a dynamic one-two punch with Katoa. In 2017 he rushed the ball 72 times for 303 yards and two touchdowns.
Amone Finau
Like Tolutau, Finau wasn’t on the roster through the 2018 season after committing as a part of last year’s recruiting class.
A 3-Star recruit, Sione Finau’s younger brother has good vision and good hands. His style of running would be interesting to see now, since he’s put on more mass since his high school days.

Morgan Pyper
There’s not much known about Pyper, who was listed as a freshman on the 2018 but played his final year of high school ball in 2014. As a senior that season, he rushed for 852 yards and eight touchdowns (6.4 ypc) and also added 253 yards and three scores through the air.
Johnny Tapusoa
Like Fonua, Tapusoa switched to running back after two years on defense for BYU. He even started two games for the Cougars on defense in 2017.
The junior didn’t play at all in 2018, and while he hasn’t announced a transfer, his name is on the NCAA Transfer Portal.
