Teams already eliminated

Portland 0-12

Pacific 3-9

Pepperdine 5-8

Loyola Marymount 5-8

Santa Clara 6-7

San Diego 6-6

Pepperdine, Santa Clara, LMU and San Diego still have a lot to play for to try to secure at worst the six seed in the tournament. The way that the tournament works this year is that:

  • Seeds seven through ten play in the first round (Thursday).
  • Seeds five and six get a first round bye and play the winners of the first round (Friday).
  • Seeds three and four get a two round bye and play the winner of the second round (Saturday).
  • Seeds one and two get a three round bye, get the weekend off, and play the winners of the third round on Monday.

As you can see, if a team is a seven seed or worse, just to make it past the weekend, they will have to play three games against fresh teams. The WCC may reward the higher seeds more than any other conference in the nation with this new format.
