Your Complete Guide to the WCC Tournament
Needs a Miracle (and more)
Saint Mary’s:
Strengths: Consistent team play is the name of the game for the Gaels. They have a system and it works for Randy Bennett and Co.
Leadership from Jordan Ford. The junior point guard is as solid as they come in the slue of great guards of the WCC and he will be a player to watch.
Weakness: The same system that gives them great consistent play makes it very hard to come back when they get down. In possessions per game, Saint Marys ranks 345 out of 353 with 66.1.
BYU:
Strengths: Dynamic scorers in Yoeli Childs and T.J Hawes at 21.5 and 18.1 respectively. Childs is tied for 1st in the WCC in scoring with Jordan Ford.
The pace of play rank 61st in the country at 74.0 possessions per game. BYU is also #8 in the NCAA in Free Throws.
Weakness: Rebounding has been the demise for the Cougars not as much on the defensive side by the offensive side where BYU is #272 in the NCAA.
Streaky shooting and reliance on the three-point shot. Cougars are #222 in the NCAA in 3pt% at 33.7%
San Francisco:
Strengths: Low turnover team. Rank #13 in the country for turnovers with 306
Senior guard play from Frankie Ferrari. Averaging almost 15.0 pts per game he is a sharpshooter and is #3 in the WCC in assists with 5.6.
Weakness: Lack of momentum going into the tournament. How you finish the season is huge and the Don’s finished about as bad as you could losing 3 straight and 2 at home.
