Although we do not know a lot about the specifics of what is going on inside the practices, here is what do know about BYU Football this spring.

BYU Spring Football has officially begun. The Cougars had their first spring practice last Monday (3/4) and practices will continue until the end of March. The new season brings back some familiar faces for BYU Football fans, as well as some new faces that fans will be seeing more of. Overall, Spring Football is just the beginning a new season, with lots of training, position battles, and headlines still to come. That being said, let’s break down the top stories from the first week of Cougar Football.

The Backup Quarterback Race

Sophomore quarterback Zach Wilson is still recovering from a shoulder surgery he had earlier year following his perfect bowl game performance. It was known for a while that he would miss spring camp. With that being said, the backup quarterback race is what most people have their eyes on. The position battle is expected to be between Jaren Hall and Joe Critchlow, with Baylor Romney getting snaps as well. Hall is playing on the BYU baseball team this season and will be balancing both sports. Critchlow, the only backup on the roster who has actually ever thrown a pass during a game, has game experience with 3 starts, winning 2 of them, in the 2017 season. Both quarterbacks are receiving reps in practice and the battle should continue for the rest of the month.
