Number Changes

Although this can seem insignificant, knowing which players are who can be a big deal especially if you make it to the Spring Game or watch clips of practice. Switching numbers is something that happens more often than you may think. Per NCAA rules, multiple players can have the same number but they can never be on the field at the same time. Essentially this means that you can’t have two offensive players with the same number unless one is so far down the bench that he would only be playing if the starter is already done for the day.

Some notable changes include Zach Wilson (11 to 1), Devin Kaufusi (92-90) and Neil Pau’u (84-2). An interesting storyline will be whether Devin Kaufusi with the same number as his brothers, Corbin and Bronson, will be able to live up to that standard, and if he does, we are calling for an immediate retirement for the number 90.
