BYU Football, Cross Country and Soccer are just some of the sports to have had great achievements in the last year, but which is the best?

For some BYU sports teams, this athletic year has been filled with ups and downs. BYU Football finished a disappointing 6-6, with a win in the bowl game propelling them to 7-6. Men’s Hoops may fail to even reach the NIT, and men’s volleyball has not lived up to their usual history (although they are getting things turned around).

That being said, we have seen some amazing team performances this year in a number of sports. Here are my top 5 team achievements so far in BYU Sports.

Let me preface this with saying we have seen some amazing individual performances in the likes of Zach Wilson, Peter Kuest, and Shannon Evans, among others. But it is the team accomplishments we want to focus on right now.

#5 – Women’s Soccer wins WCC Championship.

The 2018 Women’s Soccer team was one to be remembered and nobody really saw it coming. They won the West Coast Conference Championship and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The team finished 8-1 in conference play and rattled off five consecutive conference wins to earn the outright WCC Title. Their biggest win of the year was a 2-0 win over then 6th ranked Santa Clara, an upset win which was the game that clinched their spot in the tournament. The won the outright title in their next game  in a 2-1 win over LMU.

Even though the soccer team lost 2-1 in their first round game of the NCAA Tournament to TCU, making the tournament and winning your conference is a remarkable feat in any sport. This is even amplified when you consider that they had only ONE senior and had a losing record the year before. The women were the underdogs in the conference, and proved to come out on top in an excellent season.
