BYU Football: 5 things to watch for during Saturday’s open practice
By Adam Gibby
Jake Oldroyd and Skyler Southam both want to be BYU’s placekicker next year. Both of them have hit game winning field goals against P5 teams as well. Regardless of who ends up being the guy, don’t be surprised if there are some really long field goals made. From 60 yards? Maybe not, but 50 yards+ is absolutely a possibility.
I am unaware of the kind of exposure kickers normally get during practice, but I have a feeling that most of the time they are off to the side doing their own thing. The open practice will give coaches, players and fans the attention that they want. The starter won’t be named after the practice, but it sure could get the attention of the coaches and help make that decision.
Oh and also, Kalani Sitake in his first two seasons has spent a lot of time in the kicking game during the Spring Game.
