BYU Basketball: The NCAA bracket of Head Coach candidates
By Adam Gibby
3 Seeds
Three seeds are the teams that played really well throughout the season but weren’t quite elite. These are the teams or coaches that will likely be given in person interviews and will be taken very quickly if the top candidates don’t work out. They also though are the kind of coaches that may be content where they are.
Alex Jensen: Alex Jensen may actually be a one seed, but there are a lot of questions as to whether he would really want the job, and if he took the job how long he would stay. Currently an assistant coach of the Utah Jazz, Jensen is a young coach who probably wants to lead an NBA team someday. With the Jazz’s recent success it is a question as to whether Jensen’s best path to the NBA Head Coaching job is coaching in college or just waiting a few years and hoping the Jazz continue to play well.
Jeff Judkins: Judkins is currently the BYU Women’s Basketball Head Coach. What Judkins (or Juddy) did this past season was incredible. Coming off a bad season and losing star seniors, Judkins was able to take a team of primarily freshmen and sophomores all the way to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament. Judkins is the best women’s basketball coach ever for the Cougars and is best known for getting the best out of his players. He seems happy with the women’s team though and has even said he doesn’t like the men’s game because of the pace and isolation style of play.
Jon Judkins: Yes that is Jeff Judkin’s brother. Jon Judkins is currently the Head Coach at Dixie State. He has been named the Coach of the Year six times and has an overall 244-117 record over 14 seasons there. Sibling coaches have been good to BYU in the past, just ask the Olmstead’s and the BYU Volleyball teams. Judkins would be a solid good option, however he may not quite be qualified over the one seed.
