Defense

Lorenzo Fauatea

Lorenzo Fauatea is a sophomore defensive lineman from West Valley City, Utah. He is listed at 6 foot 4 inches, 306 pounds. Fauatea took a medical redshirt his freshman year in 2017. He played in 3 games, totaling 4 tackles and .5 tackles for loss.

His sophomore season saw him healthy and playing in all 13 games for the Cougars. He had 13 total tackles, 2.5 TFL and 2.5 sacks. Not a bad improvement, especially coming off injury.

What stands out most for Fauatea was his end of the year performance. In two of the final 3 games of the season (Utah and Western Michigan), he recorded all of his sacks and tackles for loss. This was probably due to the injuries BYU sustained at the defensive line position, and with Corbin Kaufusi now gone and graduated, look for Fauatea to step up this season for the Cougars in a big way.
