Corbin Kaufusi

What if I told you the Saints have a player who is dynamic and can be used in many different kinds of formations and be asked to do different things for the team he plays for, who would you think I am referring to? No it is not Taysom.

Corbin Kaufusi similar to Harvey Langi two years ago was not drafted however was picked up very quickly by a team. Kaufusi is odd in that he was not able to compete at the BYU Pro Day and so teams overlooked him in ways that he probably wouldn’t have had even if he had mediocre marks.

Kaufusi last season was asked to do things that not very many players can do at a high level. At some points of the season such as against Arizona and Hawai’i he was asked to drop back and play contain to keep Cole McDonald and Khalil Tate from running all over the field. Other times he was asked to play coverage such as against Boise State. Most of the time however he was asked to cause havoc in the backfield as he did against Utah when he caused issues all night long despite needing three surgeries.

The Saints appear to be pretty set at the DE position but with Kaufusi’s size and abilities maybe Sean Payton will find a way to utilize him on special teams and in different defensive formations.
