93 days separate BYU football and Utah from squaring off in the first game of the college football season.
One week ago we had 100 days until BYU football started. In one more week we will be at 86 days. Every once in awhile as this countdown crawls along, a certain number is hit that reminds us that we are in fact getting closer to college football. Hitting 100 was one of those days. Now getting a week ahead of 100 is one of those days.
Yesterday we featured Sione Takitaki as BYU’s 94th best player ever, and I want to remind everyone that the rankings are based on impact, statistics and memorable moments. Because of that the next few players in this list will likely raise some eyebrows as to why they are ranked higher than Takitaki especially when they are linemen, kickers or players who never played in the NFL.
The reason is we are ranking them on those three areas compared to, in large part, their own position. That is why the best kicker ever for BYU is going to be ranked as a top 60 player, even though statistically and with memorable moments they may not have as good of stats as a player like Takitaki.
