There are now only 88 days until the start of the BYU Football season.

88 is a really special number in our countdown for a couple of reasons. First off we are now a dozen days away from day 100. A dozen makes it sort of feel like it has been awhile since we were 100 days away. 88 is also the beginning of the end of our odd position players (for the most part) on the BYU Football Top 100.

To this point, we have featured linemen, punters, kickers, long snappers and even a pair of brothers. As we get lower in the countdown, you will notice that there will be much less players that played in odd positions and they will rarely get featured. Sure we still have one more kicker that will be featured in the 50’s and maybe a lineman or two, but the general trend is going to be covering quarterbacks, running backs, receivers, linebackers and defensive backs. This isn’t because they are the only ones who deserve recognition, but because our unique grading system that grades impact and statistics.

To this point, our players have been averaging between a C- and a C between the three grades. Going forward after today you will notice a lot more B’s and C’s and less D’s that carry the overall rankings down. Offensive and defensive linemen although very important, just don’t get the high grades on statistics, so unless their impact and memorable moment grades are really high, they no longer will be able to make the cut.

Today as mentioned before, will be the beginning of the end meaning that today will of course be an odd position player.
