BYU Football Countdown: Player 74 – Ty’s go to guy
By Adam Gibby
In 74 days the college football season will begin for BYU Football.
Receivers are perhaps the most underrated important players on a football team. Granted without a great quarterback to get the ball to receivers and without a running back to keep defenses honest an offense won’t go anywhere, but if the receivers aren’t good, offenses stall and are unable to convert long plays.
In 2017 and 2018 the Cougars struggled to have a go-to receiver with the best receiver being Matt Bushman both seasons with 520 and 511 yards. Over that time span the Cougars went 11-15 and struggled to put up a lot of points.
Generally, if a receiver has 800 yards or more in a season, the team probably has won quite a few games. If a player has 1,000 yards the team probably won ten games or more. Obviously this isn’t always the case, but if you look around college football at the ten win teams unless the team is named Army, just about every team has a 1,000 yard receiver.
Today’s player features someone who proves my point perfectly as he brought in over 1,000 over two seasons to help lead the team to two 10-3 seasons.
