No. 3 Men’s Track

Record: NA

Highest Ranking: No. 3

Postseason: Finished 7th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships

Men’s track and field was really good at the wrong events, otherwise they would have likely won the national title. Throughout the indoor and outdoor season the track team dominated the competition, especially in the distance events.

At the NCAA Championships, the Cougars went 1, 3 and 4 in the 10,000 meter run. They probably had the skill to do the same in the 5,000 meter run however because of the energy it takes to compete hard for 6.2 miles, they were unable to repeat. Had the Cougars been that dominant in the sprinting events it would have been all over.

There wasn’t too many surprises with the track team, and their 7th place finish came again because of the events that BYU was good at. The track team also has some potential to do some really good things next year as most of the distance and steeplechase runners will be back.
