No. 9 Baseball

Record: 36-17

Highest Ranking: 25

Postseason: None

Baseball started off so well with 21-5 record and a top 25 ranking. The team appeared to have done a complete 180 turn after the awful 22-28 record  the year before. Then the Cougars played Utah who was 7-15 overall and on a nine game losing streak. Well, it is the Holy War and it proved to be the difference as the Utes shocked the Cougars with a 6-8 loss. The loss seems to have gotten to the Cougars as they went on to lose five of their next eight games and then be mediocre the rest of the season. They did get their revenge later against the Utes, taking them down 10-6.

Perhaps the most upsetting part of the season came at the end when all BYU really had to do to secure a spot in the NCAA Regional for the postseason was win one game in the WCC Tournament. Instead, they lost Loyola Marymount, who they had beaten twice already, and then Gonzaga to get swept out of the tournament. They became a bubble team and for what many are blaming to be the no sunday rule, were left out of the tournament.
