The start of the BYU Football season is in less than two months from today.

We are less than two months away from football! The first football game is on August 1st in the NFL Hall of Fame game. After that, days will be just flying by as NFL preseason games will be going, College Football preview shows will be starting up and then on August 24th the season will officially begin with week zero games.

BYU and Utah will face off in week one as one of the first games of the season on the following Thursday and it will be the first rivalry game of the year. In other words, we are two months away from BYU Football, but only one month away from football starting.

Something that is being overlooked is how good BYU tends to do in season openers. The Cougars habitually start off the season really well before struggling after a few weeks. In the last decade BYU has defeated Oklahoma, Washington, Ole Miss, Washington State, UConn, Nebraska, Arizona twice and Portland State. The only game they lost was a head scratcher against Virginia a week before pounding Texas. That is a 9-1 record in the last ten games to open the season.

On the flip side, BYU has lost to Utah eight straight times. One of those two trends will have to be broken and there is no question that motivation favors BYU despite the talent favoring the Utes.

Today’s player on the countdown is a defensive end that made offenses pay if they moved on his side of the field.
