BYU Football kicks off their season one month from today!

Today is July 29th and BYU Football begins on August 29th AKA one month. Fall Camps are kicking off and this week the NFL preseason will begin. We’ve made it past the toughest part of the summer and things are starting to feel like football season.

As I was looking at the schedule yesterday I asked myself if I really liked the Independent type of scheduling that BYU has. Essentially, fans will know whether the season will be a success by the third game of the year unless something weird happens like them going 1-2 but both losses being a double overtime game.

The reason why the first few games will define the season is because in the back half of just about every year it is essentially a weak G5 schedule full of games the Cougars should win with a P5 randomly thrown in from time to time.

While it does help the Cougars finish on a high note, without any hope of a conference championship or better bowl game, things just lose a bit of their importance.

Today’s player was part of the team when the entire season did matter and the Cougars were trying every week to move up in the conference standings.
