BYU Football needs some players to take a big step in 2021 if they hope to match the success of 2020.

Every season there seems to be a surprise player for BYU. Last year, it was tight end Isaac Rex. After Matt Bushman went down with an injury during the last day of summer practices, fans assumed that the tight end position would be essentially nonexistent in the passing game in 2020. Not only was the assumption incorrect, it was 100% the other way around. Rex ended up leading the team with touchdown receptions and was fourth on the team in receiving yards.

Other players that were surprises included Zach Wilson who wasn’t even guaranteed the starting spot going into the season, Dax Milne who went from 285 receiving yards in 2019 to 1,188 in 2020, and running back Tyler Allgeier who went for 1,304 yards.

So who could be a surprising player next season? The short answer is nobody knows, hence the word surprise. But there are three players who seem to be set to have a breakout season and could be the next impact player for the Cougars.
