BYU Football: Ranking the games in 2021
By Adam Gibby
No. 4 Virginia
The reunion of Bronco Mendenhall. Had this game been a couple of years closer, this would be a bigger game. However, it has been more than five years and for the most part fans have moved past the almost sudden leave of Mendenhall to the Cavaliers. I think that most fans have come to the conclusion that at this point it was in the best interest of everyone to move on, but it was still tough at the time and especially in 2017 when BYU went 4-7.
This game will be another measuring stick game as Virginia also is a middle of the pack P5 team. To this point in Independence, it has often seemed like BYU is either playing the top of the top or bottom of the bottom. Not very many middle of the pack teams (aside from Utah who doesn’t count due to rivalry) have appeared on the schedule.
If the Cougars can somehow go 4-0 against Virginia, Baylor, Washington State and Arizona, it will be noticed nationally, even if the Cougars drop games to the other P5 teams.
