Baylor Romney

Why he should be the starter

Baylor Romney doesn’t have the same athleticism and speed is Jaren Hall, however he does seem to have the discipline and game management that is crucial to have in a quarterback. In his game against Boise State as well as against Liberty , Romney seemed poised and efficient in running the offense.

With so many offensive weapons in the receivers, tight ends, and running back groups, it is a real question as to whether or not a mobile quarterback is even necessary . There’s even an argument that having a mobile quarterback could be a liability with as much talent that there is on this team. With so many great receivers and running backs, while a mobile quarterback may decide to run after a second read, Romney seems like the kind of player that would go to a third and fourth read which could lead to more open opportunities.

Why he won’t start

While Romney is composed and very smart with the ball in his hands, there is a question to his ceiling. Romney doesn’t appear to be the kind of player that can swing the ball on the run 50 yards, break many tackles, or have the “It Factor”.

He sort of reminds fans of Christian Stewart who came in and covered for Taysom Hill when Hill was injured in 2014. While Stewart was good and helped the Cougars get to a bowl game, he isn’t exactly the kind of player who you hope to lead your team all season and have the kind of success that players like Taysom, Zach Wilson or Max Hall had.
