Since BYU football has gone Independent the Cougars have played all around the country.

If you follow Lawless Republic regularly then you know that personally I believe that BYU Football may be headed towards the AAC in the near future. Even though BYU football would still have availability to play out of conference games, it would not be nearly as often as they do in Independence.

In this article, I’m going to focus on the idea of BYU remaining Independent for the foreseeable future. If BYU were to join a conference, I believe that the three or four non-conference games would normally consist of Utah, Utah State, some other local team/FCS, and then another major team somewhere else around the country. In other words, the Cougars wouldn’t play very many P5’s or non conference teams outside of the mountain time zone.

While the Cougars have played about as many teams as any other team in the country, there are many teams still that they haven’t played (37 to be exact). Below are five teams that BYU has either not played in the past 45 years or hasn’t ever played or have scheduled in the future.

***All these games are based off of where these potential opponents are currently. Obviously if some of these teams became 2-10 teams it would lose it’s intrigue.***

#5 North Dakota State

Yes, I know it is an FCS team. That being said, it is actually crazy the Cougars hasn’t played the Bison’s ever considering that geographically, they aren’t too far away, and a reputable team.

While it makes perfect sense why the Cougars don’t really have a desire to play this team, it would still make an interesting matchup.

The Cougars likely won’t want to play North Dakota State anytime soon since the Bison are one of the best FCS schools and a loss to them would make a big dent in the Cougars overall image at least temporarily where as a win wouldn’t do much at all for the Cougars.

That being said, this would be a really fun matchup is definitely a game that I would love to see some time in the future regardless of how good North Dakota State is.
