BYU Football: How BYU can go undefeated in 2021
By Adam Gibby
Georgia Southern
Georgia Southern is a really sneaky game for BYU Football for a few reasons.
- The Cougars will be travelling all the way to Southern Georgia. Any trip late in the season can be waring for a team.
- Georgia Southern runs a triple option. Any time a team plays a triple option there is the risk of the defense not working. On the other hand, BYU destroyed Navy’s triple option last year.
- BYU will be playing USC the next week. If BYU is ranked high and in a spot to play in a NY6 they could get caught looking ahead.
If two or three of those things combine, Georgia State could upset BYU. Last year, Georgia State was actually really good last season going 8-5 with losses to Coastal Carolina, Louisiana, and App State, teams that finished with a combined 32-5 record.
Even with that, Georgia Southern should be a win for BYU, although probably a low scoring game with Georgia Southern taking up a lot of time on offense. I think that BYU builds a good defensive scheme in the three weeks prior to this game and keeps the offense contained.
