BYU Football: The strengths (and weaknesses) of each QB
By Adam Gibby
Cade Fennegan
Brief Bio: Fennegan is a transfer QB from Boise State. Last season Fennegan only had one game with quality playing time and it was against BYU where he went 15 of 26 for 182 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Before Boise State Fennegan was a two star recriut out of Dallas Texas where he threw for 1,947 yards and 29 touchdowns. He also gained 533 yards on the ground for another 11 touchdowns.
Strengths: Solid quarterback. While this isn’t a specific strength, Fennegan looks a bit like Baylor Romney where he seems to make the right decisions but isn’t flashy about it. Fennegan appears to be the kind of player that you can depend on to get down the field, score some points and be efficent.
Weaknesses: Mobility and playmaking. Fennegan is really solid when given time in the pocket or when looking through his first three reads. If any of that breaks down however, he seems to struggle to make something happen out of nothing. Fennegan would likely do really well against base defenses but may struggle against blitzing teams.
How to get in the game: Unfortunately for Fennegan, in 2021 I don’t see Fennegan seeing the field. He has great traits, but not better than any of the players above him in the depth chart. Fennegan will be a great scout team quarterback and may find himself higher on the depth chart next year.
