BYU Offense vs USF Defense
USF’s defense is a miniature version of Arizona State where they are quick and athletic, but not necessarily big or strong. While Arizona State had quite a bit of success with this playstyle for the first three quarters of the game, the Cougars wore out the defensive line and were able to whatever they wanted in the fourth quarter.
I expect more of the same against South Florida except that the Cougars will likely find more success earlier in the game probably all of the second half or earlier. The one risk with USF’s defense for BYU is that they could get turnovers and capitalize on them. Turnovers can flip a game real quick and eliminate any talent gap that may exist.
My final prediction is that USF will come up with one big turnover early in the game that will make Cougar fans worry that maybe they are a bit too relaxed, but after some early adjustments, the Cougars will overpower the Bulls and do essentially what they want pulling away into a large halftime lead.
The second half will feature quite a few backups who will make some plays and pick up a few scores.
