BYU Defense vs USF Offense

South Florida’s offense is honestly probably the best offense that BYU has faced, or at least the most complete. Arizona struggled in all facets of the offensive game while Utah and Arizona State both depended very heavily on the run.

While USF tends to be run first, with only 3.8 yards per carry, they depend a lot on the passing game as well. Their passing attack is shaky to say the least completing only 48% of their pass attempts, for 5.8 yards per attempt. Against a zone like BYU’s the completion percentage will likely go up, but the yards per attempt will remain about the same.

For BYU’s defense, the biggest question is how the team will respond to the announcement that star linebacker and leading tackler Kennan Pili being out for the season. While there is plenty of depth still at the linebacker position, one or two more guys going down could be detrimental to BYU who game plans around the play of linebackers.

Getting Keenan Ellis will be huge for the Cougars and considering that BYU will be the bigger team I expect there to be big negative plays for USF which will lead to forced throws and interceptions.

Again, I think that USF like on defense will put together a few nice drives and may even score more than 20 points, but in the end the Cougars will wear down the Bulls and have their way.
