Weather: Both teams are from the same region. It is probably going to be around 55F at kickoff and cool down to the high 40’s later in the game. While that is chilly, it shouldn’t really affect either team positively or negatively.

Atmosphere: The smell of dairy farms will be pungent to the Cougars… Okay in all seriousness though, this will be the first real hostile crowd the Cougars will face since they played San Diego State back in 2019. How will the Cougars react when it is the crowd getting loud for them on third down and not the other way around? We will find out. Regardless the advantage goes to Utah State.

Distractions: BYU Football got a nice wakeup call last week. If the Cougars had blown by the Bulls, I could see this as a trap game for sure with Boise State being played next week. While the date with Boise State is still looming, the Cougars will be locked in and ready for this game. For Utah State, this is their rivalry game and they will also be locked in. Utah State gets a slight edge in this category.

Momentum: BYU Football is No. 13 in the nation and is riding a 4-0 record with a real chance to be 6-0 when they travel to Waco in a few weeks. Utah State  just suffered their first loss, in a weird almost sad way that saw them gain 443 yards but only put up three points. That has to hurt. BYU has the edge here.

Special Teams: Both teams have had shaky starts in the field goal game. Unless Oldroyd is healthy, I doubt either coach would want to play for a game winning field goal in place of pushing the pace a bit more and going for the end zone. In the punting game Utah State averages 44 yards per punt, well below BYU. The edge goes to the Cougars.
