BYU Football: Should BYU keep playing Utah State?
By Adam Gibby
2019
This is the one year where maybe it was somehow best that there was an injury against Utah State. Again, best for the TEAM not individually of course.
Throughout 2019, Zach Wilson was really struggling to get wins with head scratching losses to Northern Illinois, Toledo and California. With a middle of the season injury at the end of the Toledo game, Hall had a chance to play against Utah State and he played spectacularly. In the first half alone, Hall was on pace to have a 400 yard passing and 100 yard rushing performance.
Right before halftime, Hall dove into the endzone and appeared to suffer a concussion. He was taken out for the rest of the game and Baylor Romney ended that game as well as the following game against Liberty.
With those kind of numbers, it would have been really tough to not continue to go with Hall as the starter even with Wilson able to play again. If BYU went on to beat Northern Illinois and Utah later that season with Hall as QB1, I think it is a very valid question to wonder whether Wilson would have been named the starter in 2020?
